Love and Casinos II

17 December 2024

“I Love This Game!”

Frank: Do you have specific games in mind in postulating this idea? How pheromones impact those games in a real way?

Ralph: Yes, a few seem to fit the mold and one game seems “off” but maybe relevant too as it fits in its own way. The game of craps can be loud with yells and cheers and a joyous abandon when the shooter is making numbers and points and making most of the players at the table some money, maybe a lot of money.

This would apply to players playing the right side, with the hot shooter making numbers and points, not with the don’t players who are rooting for an easy and usually fast seven-out.

Plenty of craps players lay it down succinctly with these phrases: “I love craps!” or “Craps is the best game in the casino!” “Life is a crapshoot!” They are anxious to play the game and may think about it in their normal lives – a lot!

Frank: I have seen the immense lure of the game over my many decades playing it. I like to play it myself; you can get the biggest charge from it, no doubt about that. I’ve written many books about it.

Ralph: When a table has been hot, and money is being made, are pheromones being released into the air that other craps players sense? Are they sniffing these scents out? Or rubbing against the skin of other players who are exuding pheromones thereby catching them and internalizing them?

It does always seem (doesn’t it?) that players appear from nowhere and hang around a hot craps table even if they can’t play on it because it is totally full of other players. It is if they are sniffing something wonderful. Are pheromones streaming into the environment from the hot table which are being picked up by other players elsewhere in the casino who then rush to that table?

At times it does seem so.

Are the cheers and screams evidence that something deep, something really deep, other than just simple joy, motivates the players who seem to be almost swooning when things are going good for them?

Are the energetic cheers bringing out an innate “something” that we might be able to correspond to a pheromone? Could the memory of such an inner pheromonic state be a cause for some craps players to go back to the tables time and time again? Winning brings out the pheromones, so let us say “yes.”

What does losing do? Maybe nothing. I don’t think there are such things as anti-pheromones. I could be wrong on that.

Frank: You actually can be wrong on the pheromone idea too. Our readers should remember that this is an article of speculation – good speculation maybe and perhaps fun to think about. But still speculation.

Ralph: Absolutely.

Frank: And what about roulette? Any pheromones there?

Ralph: Hard to tell. The game is really an individual winning and mostly all the other players not doing so hot on each spin. I don’t see how the pheromones can get, I don’t know, stirred up.

Roulette might be more of the hypnotic type of game, especially for the players who actually watch the wheel spinning.

Frank: All the best in and out of the casinos!
