Interview with a Crazy Crapper25 August 2020
Some of the Crazy Crapper bets are single decision bets such as the 2, 3, 11, 12 or the Any Seven. Some are jointly combined single decision bets such as the Horn or the whirl or C&E. Even the much-wagered Field bet is a Crazy Crapper bet too. The concept of the Crazy Crapper came from my mentor, the Atlantic City legend, the late Captain of craps. He called the bets Crazy Crapper Bets because you’d have to be crazy to make them. So while I deride the Crazy Crapper way of playing I have never given a Crazy Crapper the opportunity to express himself. Something must push someone to make such wildly house friendly wagers. So here goes. Meet James Wolpol, our Crazy Crapper and find out from him why he bets as he does. FRANK: James you are a Crazy Crapper right? JAMES: I like that term because it definitely describes my method of play. FRANK: And what would you say your method is? JAMES: I wing it. I play by intuition. I like to be on all the box numbers so I place them right away and have them working even on the come-out rolls. That gives me 24 chances to win right away out of 36. Once a point is established I will throw out the four hardways and I keep them working all the time. If one is taken down I re-bet it. I like to parley my bets too. You can’t really make a killing without getting those bets up there so a parley works for me. FRANK: Your aim is to make a killing? JAMES: Why else play? I mean winning a few dollars here and there is no fun. I want to cream the casino and the only way to do that is to bet the numbers and propositions that when they hit you will win some big bucks. My goal is big or go home. FRANK: And what happens most of the time? Does this intuitive strategy actually work? JAMES: Most times I go home. But there have been some nights where I have good luck and really hit the casino for some big bucks. FRANK: Now be honest. Are you ahead with the way you play? Near even? Or behind and, if so, about how much? JAMES: Well, everybody knows you can’t beat the game; you know that; I know that. So yes, I am behind. I can afford my losses and I enjoy the game even knowing I am going to lose over time. Yep, I’m down. I don’t know exactly how much but I am down. But the way I play gets me revved up. I mean I am excited from the moment I hit the table. FRANK: And playing a conservative game won’t give you that thrill? JAMES: Nope. Too damn boring. I want action on every roll of the dice, every roll! Using the Pass Line and Come bets, I’d fall asleep. I want some big returns on my money. I’d be twiddling my thumbs with a conservative. FRANK: But you do roll the dice? JAMES: Oh, yeah, now that’s fun and it’s the only time I make a Pass Line bet. I back it with max odds as well. But I still place all the box numbers. I do look for trends. If, like, the ten has hit a couple of times, I jack up my bet on the ten all the way. I figure these trends will last long enough for me to capitalize on them. FRANK: And does that work for you? JAMES: Sometimes. FRANK: You know I advocate only making one bet; no multiple bets at all. Just Pass or Come with odds and that’s it. JAMES: You’re nuts! FRANK: And you’re crazy! JAMES: That’s true. FRANK: Thanks for the interview. JAMES: It’s been fun. FRANK: I wish you all the best in and out of the casinos. JAMES: You too.
