Funny dice9 October 2008
Frank: I have purchased some used dice from eBay and notice something funny about one of them. I am practicing the hardways set so I place the 5s on top and the 3s toward me (I was also born in '53, which makes it easy!). I noticed that one of them has the spots on the 3 side that start in the upper right instead of the upper left. Wouldn't this make a mess of the 3V set? FYI, the die is marked Trump Plaza. Thanks, Dear Russ: There are two types of dice used by the casinos. It seems to me you got one of each from eBay. The most common dice set with the 3-V on top will have the 3s in a "V" shape pointing to you with the 5-spot on the left and the 1-spot on the right facing you. The other set will not have that. It will have the 2-spot on the left and the 6-spot on the right. Turn the dice into a pyramid and that 5:1 comes up. Different casinos use different dice, usually the first kind Type A; but some casinos use the second kind Type B and some minority of casinos will use both types. They just don't mix and match as you did. Let me recommend that you get new casino dice.
