Frank Scoblete critiques a reader's craps strategy
23 June 2012
By Frank Scoblete
Hi, Frank,
I have been playing at craps using this method and it seems to reap good results in dollar winnings.
- I put $5 on the pass and don't pass line before the come out roll.
- After the come out roll, if the point is 4 or 10, I put odds on the don't pass. Usually I will win on this bet. I also might place chips on the 6 or 8.
- Now if a 5 or 9 come in on the come out, I will repeat the above bets.
- Now if a 6 or 8 come in on the come out roll, I will remove my chip on the don't pass line and place odds on the pass line bet.
I will also take a break at the table after, say, six games. And let two games go by. This way of playing seems to work out very well for me.
Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Patrick
Dear Patrick:
If it's working for you, fine, but I have real problems with the strategy.
- The pass and don't pass is not the best way to open on the come out. The house has an edge on both bets. My opinion is to just go with one or the other.
- Of course you will win when the point is 4 or 10 since you have a two-to-one edge over the house during the point-cycle of the game.
- I am not quite sure what this means. You take the odds on the 5 or 9?
- During the point-cycle of the game, you have an edge on the don't pass. Why take the bet down?
However, as I said, if your long-range results are positive ... what can I say? Keep playing this way until you start to get hammered, which you ultimately will, and then look into better ways to attack the game.
