En prison in roulette

Dear Frank:

The more I try to learn, the more I realize I don't know half of what I thought I did! Reference your article entitled "Ten Resolutions for 2010" in the February Casino Player, page 29, the statement:

"At roulette, only play games that give you back half your wager when outside propositions are hit. These propositions are the red/black, high/low and odd/even."

I understand (or thought I did) about the en prison surrender in Atlantic City where I play. But, the previous statement made me question myself. I'm wondering if the meaning was misconstrued during printing or something, because I would expect it to read:

"At roulette, only play games that give you back half your wager when outside propositions are being played **and a 0 or double 0 is hit.**

The way the sentence originally reads would lead me to believe that if I played Black, and Black hit, I would only get back half my wager!!

BTW, the Tropicana has one single 0 wheel in the high limit area, and the minimum is only $25.

I suppose I need to stop dissecting what I read and take it at face value. I'm sure your explanation will make me feel very embarrassed for wasting your time!
