Do not bring the kiddies to the casinos!

Dear Frank:

This really, really, really bugs me -- parents who bring their little kids to the casinos. I've been to Vegas and seen kids who can barely walk being dragged through the casino by their parents. Worse, I see teenagers 13 and 14 years old at the pools and slowly ambling through the casino too. A casino is no place for a child, and even casino towns like Vegas and Atlantic City should be children free. There should be a big sign when you enter these cities: "No Children Allowed!"

What are we showing our children? Casino gambling is the opposite of the work ethic. It is the "let's get money the easy way" ethic and we all know where that gets people. Sure, I love playing casino games, but I have no illusion that I am going to make a living or even win in the long run playing the games. Because Vegas is shown to be so glamorous and inviting, many kids fall for the lure.

They should wait until they are grownups with a full-time job and the intelligence to play the games for fun than to fall into the trap of "easy money." Glamour is merely the surface of things. It isn't reality.
