Casinos ban dice setting12 July 2009
Dear K.Z.: First, your e-mail brought a smile to my face. No dice setting? About 50% of the craps players set the dice in some way, so how crazy is such a silly rule? Such nonsense will probably drive many dice players away from these casinos. The idea of hitting the back wall has become a kind of demented mantra among the scared casino pit people. Their belief is that Golden Touch dice controllers are trying to miss the back wall in order to get the edge. Of course, if you have taken our course or read our book or seen our DVD, you know we are teaching just the opposite. Our throw is based on hitting the back wall and if we miss the wall it will randomize the dice. Indeed, the casinos should mandate that we miss the back wall, not hit it! The fear in the pit about missing the back wall is probably based on erroneous information that has been written in industry journals and websites. Also some critics of dice control believe we teach this "missing the back wall" nonsense. Another strange thing operates here too. Almost all casino pit people will say they aren't afraid of dice controllers because the technique doesn't work. So why the upset about people setting the dice? If it doesn't work, why hassle the dice setters? Almost all dice setters are still random rollers too. Let's call such thinking, let me be gentle here . . . such thinking is nuts! Yes, some casinos have gone batty over this. It might also be some dice setters take too long to set and throw. I did a study comparing dice setters and other rollers and the results showed less than a second's difference between the two groups. What was different was how long it appeared was the difference. Kissing, shaking, winging the dice down the felt where they bounced all over the place looked as if it was fast. The dice setter seems to take more time. My study shows he doesn't. I am giving you a free 30-day subscription to my private members-only website at www.goldentouchcraps.com. We have over 5,000 members on this private site and the conversations are interesting, enlightening and fun. Enjoy! All the best in and out of the casinos!
