Bye, Bye Money30 July 2024
But playing these games is just so much fun that once baptized in Lady Luck’s vivid stream we have little choice in the matter. That’s why we play them because like sirens of the seven seas these games call to us; perhaps to some inner part of us. Win? Lose? Do either of these make much of a difference? I think not. Most casino players have their play controlled. They play with unscared money; such money that they have accumulated through hard work or a wealthy family. And most of these players are fully aware that the house edge will beat them; if not today then quite soon. Still, they love to play and that is that. I think that part of the allure of casino playing is the sheer joy of having that delicious feeling of anticipation. The thought, the hope, that today will see you win a bundle of cash – maybe so much cash that you might take hours to count it. That anticipation makes us hunger and thirst for some casino action. Our hopes are positive; our results on any given trip are usually not quite so positive. Still there is always tomorrow and tomorrow will usually come. Preparing to Take Down the House You know you are fighting an uphill battle in any casino game you play. That’s a given. Some games can be close contests – blackjack played at a full table, or you can make a few of the best bets at craps or you can correctly cover games with very low house edges. Indeed, played properly mini-baccarat comes in with a low house edge as long as you don’t bet more than (shall we say) 50 hands per hour and you stay away from trying to grind it out over the game. Although it has a small edge on two of its three bets, you can play 150 or more hands per hour. And you must avoid the third bet, called the “tie” bet too. The house edge on that bet is in the realm of the ridiculous. And skip all the “bonus” events while you’re at it as well. Can you do that? If so, have at it. Roulette on the 0 and 00 wheel should not come in with more than 40 decisions. If you are stuck playing the triple zero game (0, 00, 000), then cut your betting level by one third. That will give you a loss you can handle – should you lose. You can go through any game you play and work out how much you can afford to lose and start from there. Play every game and figure out what you can afford to lose and play only that amount. You might indeed find that structuring your betting based on your possible losses will serve you well. Do you want to be super conservative? Okay, do this, figure out how many total bets you can make and do not bet a penny more than that. If you figure that 100 bets are all you can make at roulette then keep your betting at that level. Do not make more than 100 bets. On the outside even-money wagers that 100 bets might be satisfying. How you lose your money is, after all, up to you. All the best in and out of the casinos. Frank Scoblete’s web site is www.frankscoblete.com.
