Back and forth on Triple Double

19 February 2013

Dear Frank:

I have a question I hope you can answer. If one is playing a multi-game video poker machine, are the cards you draw the exact same for every game? In other words, if I was playing Jacks or Better and was dealt a royal flush, had I been playing Deuces Wild, would I have drawn those same cards.

Thank you!

Jim

Hi Jim:

No. Every game and every deal in every game is totally different. In fact if you pressed the deal button a second later your hand would have been different.

Frank

Dear Frank:

Thank you for taking the time to answer my question. I was aware that due to the RNG, the cards you were dealt, depended on exactly when you play. What I did not know was whether the cards dealt, were different for every game.

The reason I asked was because of what happened to me recently. I do not want to waste your time, but it might be something your readers find interesting. It is absolutely true, and shows how a mistake on my part, due to being distracted and not paying attention can really cost you.

I am a small time player at the quarter machines, and I try to visit a casino twice a month. About a month ago, I was at an Indian casino in my state. They have a bank of machines that I like to play because they are the only machines that have Triple Double Bonus Poker available. As you well know, this game pays 4,000 credits for quad aces with a low kicker. The very last machine I played on that visit, I got lucky and hit that hand. It was nice to walk out of the casino, with some of their money, as that does not happen very often.

I went back about two weeks later. I never play any machine for very long, so I make a number of rotations through the casino and I played that same bank of machines a couple of times and lost each time I played. Toward the end of the night, I was back in that same area and began playing a couple of different machines, each time making sure that I was playing for 25 cents and on the proper game.

The last machine I played was next to two women who were playing and having a conversation at the same time. They were doing absolutely nothing wrong, but I was distracted and not paying my full attention to the game. Sure enough, I hit quad aces with a low kicker and looked at the payout expecting to see a $1,000 win. Instead, I had won 150 credits and I knew immediately I had screwed up. I think I was playing Bonus Poker instead of Triple Double Bonus. I had messed up and told the women next to me that were sitting next to the dumbest guy in the casino.

This is why I asked the question.

Thanks again.

Jim

Hi Jim:

Jim:

On any given night many gamblers consider themselves the dumbest guy (or lady) in the casino!

All the best in and out of the casinos!
