Ask Frank: Taking Down a Don't Pass Bet5 March 2004
Dear Marty, The casino allows you to take down your bet on the Don't Pass and the Don't Come because once these bets are actually on a number, the player has a big edge. The man who removed his 6 Don't Pass bet was nervous because next to the 7, the 6 (and 8) have the highest probability of showing (five in 36 for the 6 and 8 to six in 36 for the 7). He took his bet off, hoping that when it was placed on the Don't Come, he would get up on another number that didn't have the frequency of appearance like the 6 or 8. In strictly math terms, he made a big mistake as he is still the odds on favorite to hit a 7 before a 6.All the best in and out of the casinos!
