Ask Frank: Can Slots Be Set to Hit at a Certain Time?

Dear Frank,

I have a friend that plays a particular slot machine. The funny thing is that every Monday and Wednesday at 12:30 AM the machine pays off. I told her that it is coincidence until she showed me her notes. For the last six months, this machine has hit every time.

What do you think?

Dear Chuck,

I have no idea. I don't see any manufacturer programming a machine to hit at a given time because that would guarantee a win for someone who discovers the programming. My guess is it is purely luck and your friend happened to be there. That's my guess anyway.
