A reader's doey-don't system

7 November 2010

Frank,

I have read Casino Craps: Shoot to Win! and believe in the Captain's 5-Count and follow that mantra. I have a version of the doey-don't that I would like to ask you about.

For those with a smaller bankroll, I thought about this. Pass line bet with odds after the 5-Count. Then three or four come bets in a row followed by two rolls without putting up any more bets. Then put a don't come bet out for three rolls, maybe more.

The theory is that when you're paid on a come bet, the don't come takes its place. As the rolls progress, you eventually have three don't come bets up, and when the nasty devil [the 7] pops up, you would be paid for all these at once. Effectively you could be paid for the repeating numbers and the eventual seven-out on the same rolling session.

Would this work on a choppy table?

Thanks for your time,
Kevin

Dear Kevin:

If you are playing a random game, then whether you bet the "do" or the "don't" really doesn't matter, so your idea is as good as anyone else's. However, I think you are betting way too many numbers. Stick to no more than three.

As far as choppy tables go -– there is no such thing. Tables were choppy or were hot or were cold but those descriptions can only deal with the past; they do not indicate the future. So I wouldn't worry about trying to read the table or using intuition to discover what will or will not happen in the upcoming rolls. Discovering trends or using intuition are false concepts believed in by many losing gamblers.
