A New Blackjack Term Invented! Now You Can Hit, Stand, Split, Double or .....25 June 2000
A momentous event occurred on the Goodtimes radio show on Saturday, June 24, 2000 -- a new blackjack term was invented by a listener. For those of you not in the know, the Goodtimes show is the longest-running weekly radio show devoted exclusively to casino gambling. It broadcasts from Memphis and on alternate weeks from the lobby of Sam's Town Hotel and Casino in Tunica, Mississippi from 8 AM to 10AM. You can also get it over the internet from Yahoo! broadcasts. The host of the show is the wild and funny Rudi Schiffer and he is ably assisted by the man of many voices, Clyde Callicott, marketing director of The Gold Strike Hotel and Casino in Tunica and by Chris Wade, the suave and debonair Marketing Director of Sam's Town. John Robison and I round out the cast of characters on the program. One of the highlights of the show is the ready availability of quality comps for listeners who call in and answer correctly (or nearly correctly or sometimes even wrongly!) various trivia questions that we ask. This particular Saturday, Gold Strike was giving away buffet comps along with comps to a professional boxing match (Knockdown in the Delta) or Beatlemania tickets. So you got to have dinner and a fight or dinner and a show -- free! The total value of these comps came to over $50 per person. Not bad for one little phone call! So Rudi floated out this question: "What do Dolly Parton and blackjack have in common? It's a term. You can do this in blackjack if you hit a hand and go over 21?" The phones immediately lit up. Caller: "Say that question again, Rudi?" Rudi: "What have Dolly Parton and blackjack in common? A term. You can do this in blackjack if you hit a hand and go over 21? Think Dolly Parton and blackjack. What do they both have?" Caller (pause for thought): "...tits?" Rudi: "Well, ha! ha!, no, we meant bust. Like you could bust your hand. Dolly has a bust, see?" Caller: "Well, she got tits, too." So, there you have it. You can hit and make your hand or you can hit and tit your hand. Who said blackjack wasn't sexy?
