In Brief: U.S. I-Gaming Study Bill Set for Markup Wednesday

29 July 2008

The Internet Gambling Study Act, introduced in May 2007 by Representative Shelley Berkley, the Nevada Democrat, has been scheduled for markup by the House Judiciary Committee on Wednesday.

Ms. Berkley's bill, which proposes a one-year study on Internet gambling conducted by the National Academy of Sciences, has gained 73 cosponsors since its introduction last year. However, in the same time, it has seen no action in Congress.

It should also be pointed out that there are 11 other bills on the roster with Ms. Berkley's bill, so it could be pulled from the schedule. But as of now, it will be heard.

A spokesman with Ms. Berkley's office could not confirm with IGamingNews whether a vote would indeed take place tomorrow.
