In Brief: Kahnawake Energizing PR Campaign

28 July 2008

The Kahnawake Gaming Commission on Monday said it had appointed a team to monitor the activities of Tokwiro Enterprises ENRG, parent company of Absolute Poker and Ultimate Bet, which have both been under the microscope in recent months for cheating scandals.

The team, led by Frank Catania Sr., president of Catania Gaming Consultants and former director of the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement, will look for evidence that all games offered are fair and honest and that both licensees are in compliance with all player protections required by the commission.

The full story will be available later today.

IGN's Take

While no causal connection has been made between last week's statement from former Senator Alfonse M. D'Amato and Kahnawake's recent string of press releases, time will tell whether Kahnawake's upswing in PR will help restore trust among an increasingly savvy community of online poker players.

Also worth noting is Mr. Catania's relationship with Kahnawake: He helped prepare Internet gaming regulations that were adopted there in July 1999.
