Gaming Industry Resources Are Plentiful

5 July 2006

In recent years, hundreds of thousands of new employees have entered the gaming industry as casino gaming has proliferated throughout the globe. Those of us who have lived through the emergence of a new market know that gaming is a unique industry that mixes complex regulatory constraints with an industry focused on ensuring that customers have fun. Learning the various aspects of the industry, and picking up pointers on best practices of the industry in new markets can be somewhat tricky, given that most of your coworkers probably also do not have casino industry experience. Fortunately, the gaming industry has a number of valuable publications available for us to stay informed of key developments impacting the industry, and to learn the various specialties necessary to succeed in the industry.

In today's column, I hope to highlight just a few of the important industry publications that are available. These are publications that I have come to rely on when tracking developments. If any readers are aware of additional publications that I should include in a future column, please feel free to send me the information or a link.

Global Gaming Business Magazine (www.ggbmagazine.com)

This monthly publication is published by Roger Gros and Paul Dworin, two very experienced professionals with long careers that have been fully devoted to reporting on all aspects of the gaming industry. Each month the magazine provides an excellent summary of news impacting the industry from a global perspective, and has several targeted features, including profiles of various markets and casinos, information on Wall Street developments, Internet gaming developments, and opinions and news from the American Gaming Association. The magazine does an excellent job of conducting comprehensive interviews with key industry officials on timely topics. Global Gaming Business Magazine has also shown itself to be fairly cutting edge in its approach, with the recent launch of a Podcast, and the publication of Global Gaming Russia, a new magazine targeting this important emerging market. In addition, Global Gaming Business publishes a weekly edition focused on important developments through a joint venture with Spectrum Gaming Group and Michael Pollack's Gaming Industry Observer. For those who want to closely track legislative developments, the weekly publication is an extremely valuable resource.
