In Detroit, there are also several issues that have had the potential to distract the industry. The final location of the three permanent casinos is still up in the air, and the new Mayor has said that he wants to resolve the matter by the end of March. Further complicating the picture is a decision from the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals two weeks ago stating that a "preference" contained in Detroit's Casino Development Competitive Selection Process Ordinance is invalid. The decision came in a case brought by the Lac Vieux Desert Band of Lake Superior Chippewa Indians, which runs a little casino (621 slots, 4 dollar machines) in Watersmeet, Michigan (in the far western part of the U.P.).
