Black Friday payment processor pleads guilty

18 January 2012

Accused payment processor Ira Rubin, who was one of 11 men indicted on April 15 by the U.S. Department of Justice, pleaded guilty to conspiracy charges in a Manhattan federal court on Tuesday.

The 53-year-old was accused of processing payments for PokerStars, Full Tilt Poker and Absolute Poker. The government claims that Rubin helped the three poker rooms move billions of dollars to customers that were disguised as payments to fake Internet merchants. The government also claimed that Rubin tried to flee to Thailand to avoid prosecution.

Rubin faces a prison term of 18 to 24 months, according to the plea agreement.
