Morning Brief: Predators and Prey

8 September 2008

In a note to the Vienna Stock Exchange, Bwin Interactive Entertainment, the online betting specialist, said it spent 2.25 million euros in an unsuccessful bid to obtain a sports betting license in Turkey. In March 2007, the company discontinued serving the Turkish market directly after prohibitive legislation was enacted the month prior. Kevin O'Neal, a press officer with Bwin, has agreed to speak with IGamingNews on this tomorrow.

Gigi Levy, the chief executive of 888 Holdings, answered questions by telephone this morning about the company's growing business-to-business proposition. When asked whether offering a full turnkey solution -- that is, b-to-b in tandem with b-to-c services -- would make the company a better acquisition target, he remarked pithily:

"To be frank, we consider ourselves the predator and not the prey."

More from this interview to come.

Industry rumor has that Jon Salmon, the managing director of AdsDotCom, is set to join PartyGaming as chief marketing officer. John Shepherd, PartyGaming's director of corporate communications, could not be reached for comment.

Gaming VC Holdings, the Luxembourg online operator, has appointed Lee Feldman non-executive chairman. Mr. Feldman, previously a non-executive director, replaces Adrian J.R. Smith. No reason was given for Mr. Smith's replacement, and the company's financial public relations firm declined comment.
