Fla. Internet Poker Study Awaits Governor's Signature7 May 2009
The language -- identical to that in a recent Senate bill, SB 682, which died in session last week -- instructs the state to perform a study and, by Dec. 1, 2009, make recommendations about a new regulatory scheme for the activity. "We think it's a great idea that the Florida Legislature has taken the step to learn everything they can and make sure they're doing all due diligence," Jim Tabilio, president of Poker Voters of America, a grassroots advocacy group supporting the bill, told IGamingNews Thursday. The study language forms part of an 80-page House bill, HB 425, the long title for which is: An act relating to the Department of Business and Professional Regulation. Florida law currently prohibits engaging in any unregulated game of chance for money or anything of value, but does authorize certain games, including poker, at licensed pari-mutuel wagering facilities. There are 21 licensed card rooms in Florida, according to the Department of Business and Professional Regulation Web site. IGamingNews will report as news on this bill develops.
