Wynn Resorts unveils Wynn Everett resort in Boston28 March 2013
Wynn Resorts said Chairman and CEO Steve Wynn did not attend the event. President and Chief Operating Officer Gamal Aziz unveiled a single artist’s rendering of the resort that shows a 19-story, 550-room hotel that includes several low-lying buildings with glazed skylights. The plan includes gardens and a walking path leading to the river. The company said construction would be completed in 24 to 36 months. Everett Mayor Carlo DiMaria Jr. said the development will create 4,000 construction jobs and an equal number of permanent jobs once Wynn Everett is completed. Wynn Resorts faces stiff competition for the only gaming license in Boston from Suffolk Downs racetrack in East Boston, which is partnered with Caesars Entertainment Inc. That group is expected to unveil its plans in a few days. A third competitor, Crossroads Resort in Milford, Mass., is working with Las Vegas-based Warner Gaming. Little is known of their plan. Wynn has promised to build a world-class resort on the 40-acre parcel that was the site of a Monsanto Chemical Co. plant. Massachusetts gaming officials are expected to issue the first casino licenses early next year, the Boston Herald reported. This is the second casino Wynn Resorts has proposed to build in Massachusetts. In May, Wynn Resorts pulled out of a deal with The Kraft Group, owner of the New England Patriots, that would have built a $1 billion casino-resort next to Gillette Stadium in Foxborough.
