Nevada gaming regulator to outsource testing

10 May 2012

The Nevada State Gaming Control Board on July 1 will begin outsourcing preapproval testing for all gambling devices and associated cashless wagering systems licensed for use by casinos in the Silver State, the agency said in a statement.

The regulator said that its Gaming Control Board Technology Division will also stop handling preapproval testing for mobile and interactive gaming systems, which will be done by independent laboratories registered with the state Gaming Control Board.

This includes new, modifications to, and variations of such games, devices, equipment and systems, the board said.

The Gaming Control Board approved the changes in March, noting that independent labs, which have more flexibility in terms of staffing, might be in a better position to handle any increase in testing requirements as Nevada launches its intrastate online poker.

The board said it expects to register "multiple independent testing laboratories" before June 30 and will maintain a list of all accredited agencies at gaming.nv.gov.
