George Atiyeh of Allentown, Pa., was indicted by federal prosecutors in mid-December on charges of operating an illegal gambling business that used both the Internet and telephone lines.

Appeals Court Declares Marker Debts Enforceable11 December 2001
A federal court of appeals recently ruled that gamblers in land-based casinos are obligated to pay debts from markers--IOUs from the player to the casino.
