Just Ask Scobe and AP

9 September 2002
Dear Scobe and AP: Some of these video poker machines give you a chance to double your money if you happen to win on a hand. Sometimes it's a "Pick the High Card" bet and then, sometimes, it's a choice of picking either red or black. From my experience, I lose most of the time by either ending up with ... (read more)

Just Ask Scobe and AP

2 September 2002
Dear Scobe and AP: Have you seen any of this new software for PCs that lets you play upwards of 20 or more of the casino slot machines on your home computer? I paid $20 for a program that allows me to play Hay Wire, Five Times Pay, Hot Peppers, Ten Times Pay, Double Cherry, Double Diamond, Double Double Diamond, and Triple Diamond just like all of the slot machines I would see at Tunica. ... Just Ask Scobe and A.P.

14 August 2002
Dear Scobe and A.P.: My friends think I'm nuts but I find that casino gambling is a great leisure-time activity. I would rather go to a casino and play blackjack than go to a movie. My friends say I am wasting my money. I am a $5 player. What do you think? F.C. Dear F.C.: If you go to a first-run movie, you can spend $8-$10 on the ticket; another $8-$12 on popcorn, candy and soda. ... (read more)

Dear AP: What is "surrender" in blackjack and how do you use it? I have this ongoing battle with my wife. She says you should never surrender any hand. I say you should surrender every hand of 16 against a dealer's up-card of seven, eight, nine or ten. Who's right? PW Dear PW: Your wife is 100 percent wrong. ... (read more)

Just Ask A.P.

29 January 2000
Dear AP: Please give me the rules for doubling down on hard hands. Also, my friend and I are having this debate. He says that you should double down on anything under 12 if the dealer is showing a bust card. So if you have a three and a two and the dealer's up card is six, should you double? He says "yes" because the dealer is in a very vulnerable position. ... (read more)

Just Ask A.P.

29 December 1999
Dear AP: When is the best time to bluff in poker? I say that you should always bluff early in a game so you can sniff out the other players' reactions. What's your opinion? MM Dear MM: I'm not a poker player but according to Frank Scoblete's Guerrilla Gambling: How to Beat the Casinos at Their Own ... (read more)

Just Ask A.P.

25 November 1999
Dear AP: If I play $25-a-bet for four hours at a casino, what can I expect to get comped? PG Dear PG: That is not an easy question. Each game is rated differently depending on the percentage edge that the casino has over you. If you were to play blackjack at this level and you knew basic strategy ... (read more)

Just Ask A.P.

14 October 1999
Dear AP: I have a friend who swears that the physical condition of a slot machine can give you accurate information as to whether or not that machine is going to be a winner. For example: Is it true that if you touch a slot machine and it feels hot, you should pass it by because it has already given out all ... (read more)

Just Ask A.P.

29 August 1999
Dear AP: Soft hands at blackjack always confuse me. Sometimes I hit, sometimes I double down, but always I wonder if I'd made the right move. This is especially true of the following hands: A2 vs. a dealer's five; A3 vs. the dealer 's three; and A7 vs. the dealer's six and seven. What are the right moves and why are they the right moves. ... (read more)

Just Ask AP

31 July 1999
Dear AP: I am an avid craps player with a big bankroll and I'm looking for the best craps game in America. Where is it? I'm a pass line and come better and I take the full odds. Point me to the best places to play. My money is burning a hole in my pocket! SG Dear SG: First, let me compliment you on your style of play, which is the best way to play craps. ... (read more)
