The first casino in Las Vegas had about 70 slot machines and a few table games. These days, casinos have hundreds — if not thousands — of slots and table games as far as the eye can see. Don't forget the restaurants, entertainment venues and water parks — you name it, they've got it.

All this variety makes for a great vacation, but sometimes you want to keep it simple and hunker down at a slot machine. Whether you're a longtime slot player or think they're relics of the gambling world's past, it's difficult to deny their nostalgic appeal and charming aesthetic.

So where do you go when you want to hit the slots? Luckily, today's sprawling metropolises of lights and action aren't lacking in that department. Check out the top 10 casinos in the world, ordered by number of slot machines.

10. Choctaw Casino Resort – Oklahoma
Open 24/7 year-round, the Choctaw Casino Resort in Durant has 4,000 slot machines. The newly built Spa Tower features 286 luxury rooms, and The District hosts bowling, laser tag and an expansive movie theater.

9. Resorts World Casino New York City – New York
Resorts World, best known for their Asian casinos, set up shop in New York City with 4,094 slot machines and thousands of table games. The Times Square Casino and Fifth Avenue Casino offer separate, but equally exciting, gaming experiences.

8. Maryland Live! Casino – Maryland
Maryland Live! Casino has more than 200 dealer table games and 4,200 slot machines, making it one of the largest commercial casinos in the country. From Sept. 23 to Oct. 5, the casino hosts a World Poker Tour event.

Empire City's slot count totals 5,300, and the venue has live racing five nights a week. Yonkers Raceway was founded in 1899 as the Empire City Race Track, and the casino continues the racing tradition with live racing five nights a week.
