Ohio Woman Sues Peppermill Casino

RENO, Nevada – As reported by the Reno Gazette-Journal: "A 69-year-old Ohio woman is suing the Peppermill Hotel-Casino and the city of Reno, claiming that she was dragged out by police for trespassing even though she was a guest.

"'It was the most unbelievable thing,' said Gloria Durante, of Columbus, Ohio, in a statement. 'Here I was staying at the hotel, and the Peppermill security was handcuffing me and insisting the police take me away for trespassing.'

"…Reno City Attorney Patricia Lynch described the allegation as serious. Beyond that, she said she couldn't comment, not having reviewed the filing.

"According to the lawsuit, Durante had been invited to the Peppermill for a slot tournament and had booked a room for five days in September 2003.

"After playing slot machines for several hours on Sept. 6, 2003, she went to her room to take a nitroglycerin pill for heart pain.

"…It was her birthday. Other gamblers wished her well, and she had made new friends, according to the lawsuit. Suddenly, a security guard told her to 'get out' of the casino, the lawsuit said.

"The security guard wouldn't listen to her claims that she was a guest and not drunk, the lawsuit said. She had fainted because of the medication, according to the lawsuit…"
