Greece accused of flouting EU state aid rules

5 October 2011

GREECE AND BRUSSELS, Belgium -- A complaint has been made to the European Commission over Greece's gambling laws, The Daily Telegraph reported.

The Remote Gambling Association filed the complaint saying the laws favour OPAP who have a monopoly on Greek gambling and recently renegotiated extending that monopoly until 2030, the report said.

OPAP will not have to pay the standard 30% tax on its land-based operations in the deal it just made with the government, according to the Daily Telegraph report.

Greece is desperately trying to raise cash through privitization to secure a further EU/IMF bailout to deal with its current economic calamity.
