Gambling tax revenues worry Indiana25 August 2009INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana -- As reported by Evansville Courier & Press: "Taking testimony Monday from executives at two Indiana gambling sites, a panel of lawmakers zeroed in on ways to keep tax dollars flowing from casinos, a struggling cash cow, into state coffers. "'I think the state is really trying to figure out how it's going to remain competitive,' said Tom Dingman, general manager of Evansville's Casino Aztar. "'What's good for the (gaming) industry overall is going to be good for the state.' "...Tax revenue from Indiana's 11 casinos and two hybrid 'racinos' — or horse tracks with casinos — likely will remain flat or perhaps even dip slightly over the next two years, said the committee's nonpartisan fiscal analyst, Jim Landers. "Between July 1, 2008, and June 30, 2009, Indiana collected about $819 million in gambling taxes. That marked a further slowdown in tax revenue growth from the industry..." |
