Gaming NewsFour arrested in Albany poker robbery13 February 2009ALBANY, New York -- As reported by the Times-Union: "City police have arrested four young men and charged them in connection with a violent January robbery outside a social club once used as an underground poker den. "Detectives believe the suspects, two of whom are college students, either conspired to or took part in the incident where a man was pistol-whipped and robbed of $5,500 in cash and $4,500 in cashiers checks. "The mugging took place the night of Jan. 22 as the victim, whose name was not released, exited to the rear parking lot of the Azzurri fraternal club on North Allen Street. Two weeks after city officials had given the owner a permit to reopen the business following its closure in 2008, and less than 18 hours after the robbery, it was shuttered again by the city's Division of Buildings and Codes, which found no member list support its operation as a 'fraternal organization...'" |
