Engineer says Florida casino safe to repair

LAKE WORTH, Florida -- As reported by the Palm Beach Post : "The faded 1922 casino building at Lake Worth Beach needs repairs, but it's not falling down, a structural engineer today told city commissioners.

"The analysis by B.P. Taurinski reverses a former building official's opinion that John G's on the Beach and other casino tenants should leave the building by the end of March because of structural flaws.

"Photos presented during a commission workshop showed areas where the concrete was cracking and steel reinforcement bars were rusting. But the good sign is that the cracked concrete is not concentrated in one area, a member of Taurinski's staff said.

"Taurinski estimated that repairs to the casino would cost $600,000 to $700,000. He said the concrete could be fixed once the casino is restored..."
