Philadelphia man pleads gulity in sports-gambling probe

MAYS LANDING, New Jersey -- As reported by Courier-Post: "A Philadelphia man has admitted his role in a sports-gambling ring inside the poker room of the Borgata Hotel Casino, state officials said Wednesday.

"Anthony Nicodemo, 37, pleaded guilty in Superior Court here Tuesday to conspiracy to promote gambling and launder money. Under a plea agreement, he faces a recommended sentence of three years in prison, according to the state Division of Criminal Justice.

"Nicodemo was among more than 20 people to be arrested in November 2007 when state investigators shut down the ring that reportedly took in more than $60 million over 20 months. He had 'leadership authority' over ring members who took bets inside the Atlantic City casino, officials said.

"Two men alleged to have leadership roles in the ring -- Jack Buscemi Jr., 51, of Mullica Hill, and Andrew Micali, 33, of Ventnor -- pleaded guilty last month. They face five-year sentences...."
