Wet Thanksgiving expected for Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS, Nevada -- If you're making travel plans for the holiday, don't forget to pack an umbrella — up to an inch of rain is possible this week for the Las Vegas area, according to the National Weather Service.

A storm system will move into the region tonight, bringing the chance of rain in the Las Vegas valley and snow in the mountains, the weather service said.

The chance of precipitation will linger through Thanksgiving Day before drier weather arrives for the weekend, the weather service said.

Today's forecast calls for partly sunny skies, with a high near 71 degrees.

A 40 percent chance of showers is expected after 10 p.m., with mostly cloudy skies and a low around 50, the weather service said.

Rain is likely on Wednesday — the chance for precipitation is 70 percent — with cloudy skies and a high near 61 degrees. Wednesday night's forecast calls for a 50 percent chance of rain, with a low around 47 degrees.

For Thanksgiving Day, the weather service forecasts a 40 percent chance of rain, with mostly cloudy skies and a high near 61 degrees. The rain chances fall off to 20 percent Thursday night, with mostly cloudy skies and a low around 47.

If you're heading out to shop on Black Friday, you'll find partly sunny skies, with a high around 65. Friday night's low will be 47.

The weekend will bring highs in the mid 60s and morning lows in the 40s, the weather service said.
