Mississippi Groups Try to Stop Casino

BILOXI, Mississippi – As reported by the Biloxi Sun Herald: "Two environmental organizations are asking a judge to set aside an environmental permit issued by the Commission on Marine Resources for the Bacaran Bay Casino project on Keegan Bayou.

"The filing in Harrison County Chancery Court by their attorney, Reilly Morse, states the 'permit is unsupported by substantial evidence, arbitrary and capricious, inconsistent with public policy and in violation of (his clients') constitutional rights.'

"The environmental groups appealing are Gulf Islands Conservancy Inc. and Concerned Citizens to Protect Isles and Point Inc.

"The commission has not responded to the appeal that was filed Wednesday. Commissioners voted three times in favor of the environmental permit -- on Jan. 18, when they originally granted it; Feb. 15, when they rejected a request to reconsider their decision; and Feb. 28, when they added language to protect their stance in the event of a court challenge…"
