Lake of the Torches celebrates guest's 104th birthday

Lydia Zastrow of Woodruff, who has been visiting the casino weekly since 2001, has been celebrating her birthday at the casino for a number of years. "This is a great way to celebrate my birthday," she said.

Lydia said she enjoys playing Blackjack while visiting Lake of the Torches, a game she's been playing for more than 20 years. The aspect of the game she enjoys the most is winning, she said.

She regularly comes on Sundays and Thursdays with Lucky 7 tours, which picks her up in Woodruff. Coming to Lake of the Torches is a way for her to get out and have some fun for a few hours.

"All of us at Lake of the Torches wish Lydia the best on her incredible birthday and we are very happy to see her continue to visit us," said Michael J. Broderick, Lake of the Torches' Director of Marketing. "Lydia has been, and continues to be, an inspiration to all of the staff and management here at Lake of the Torches. We are very proud that Lydia continues to enjoy our facility."

To put into perspective Lydia's 104 years of life, when she was born in 1904, President Theodore Roosevelt was in the White House, a new car speed record of 91.37 mph was set by Henry Ford, the third (III) Modern Olympic Games opened in St. Louis, ice cream cones made their debut at the St. Louis World's Fair, the price of a small house was $5,000 and the cost of a first class postage stamp was two cents.

Situated on the shores of Pokegama Lake and nestled in Wisconsin's Northwoods, the Lake of the Torches Resort Casino has a feel of a classic Northern retreat and reflects its Ojibwe culture and heritage.
