New Hampshire casino opponents speak out

CONCORD, New Hampshire – As reported by the Fosters: "The Granite State would experience increased crime and problems with gambling addictions while only gaining low-wage jobs if casino gambling is brought to Pease International Tradeport — or anywhere else in the state.

"Such was the unified message delivered by opponents on Tuesday on a proposed Senate bill that would allow video slots in hotels as well as a casino in Berlin and at the tradeport.

"'We think it would come at a huge cost,' said Associate Attorney General Ann Rice, who spoke during a public hearing on Senate Bill 225 before the Senate Ways and Means Committee.

"The legislation is sponsored by Berlin Republican Sen. John Gallus, who was the only person to speak in favor of the bill.

"Rice said the attorney general's office has consistently opposed gambling during the last 30 years…"
