Seneca to fight judge's ruling

NEW YORK -- As reported by the Buffalo Business First: "A defiant Seneca Nation of Indians vowed to fight a U.S. District Court Judge's ruling that seeks to close the Seneca Buffalo Creek Casino in downtown Buffalo.

"Federal Judge William Skretny, on Tuesday, called for the National Indian Gaming Commission to follow his July 8 ruling and force the closing of the casino.

"Seneca leaders said Skretny's ruling, coupled with the on-going anti-casino battle, is frustrating for their nation.

"...The judge, however, did not call for gaming to cease at a temporary casino, located on the site and operated by the Seneca Nation of Indians. Skretny, who made his initial ruling July 8, said then that the nine-acre property is considered sovereign land, is now asking the National Indian Gaming Commission to enforce the law..."
