Mississippi numbers hold steady

BILOXI, Mississippi -- As reported by the Biloxi Sun-Herald: "Even with the rising cost of gas and slowing of the economy, the Coast casinos held relatively steady in the number of visitors and gross casino revenue in the first half of 2008.

"Information posted this week by the Mississippi Gaming Commission indicates most categories are down slightly, showing the record increases of the post-Katrina casino rush have leveled out.

"In the first half of 2008 gross casino revenue on the Coast was $84.2 million compared with $84.4 million for the first six months of 2007.

"...Gamblers who have to drive several hours decided to stay home because of gas prices. Total visits were down by almost 483,000 in the first half of the year and the number of Florida visitors dropped by about 2 percent..."
