Feds: Nebraska case should be thrown out

NEBRASKA -- As reported by the Omaha World-Herald: "The federal government says Nebraska Attorney General Jon Bruning's lawsuit seeking to block the Ponca Indian tribe's plans to build a casino should be thrown out of court.

"The U.S. Justice Department, in response to Bruning's lawsuit , filed legal arguments Thursday that said Nebraska has no standing in the case since the Ponca Tribe plans to build its casino Carter Lake, Iowa.

"Justice Department lawyers also contended that the National Indian Gaming Commission made the correct decision when it ruled late last year that the Ponca could build a casino on five acres of ground it owns in Carter Lake..."
