Oregon tribal casino, city make deal28 May 2008FLORENCE, Oregon -- As reported by the Siuslaw News: "Final decisions will be made after a June 2 public hearing. "City Council approved, May 19, a conceptual agreement to provide city police services to Three Rivers Casino and the Hatch Tract. "A draft of the negotiated agreement is available on the city's Web site, www.ci. florence.or.us/default .cfm. City Council will hold a public hearing regarding the agreement June 2. "If the agreement is approved at that time, city police could provide services to Three Rivers Casino and the Hatch Tract by July 1, said Assistant to the City Manager Jacque Morgan. If both partners wanted police services at the casino site to start earlier than July 1, another pro-rated agreement would be drawn up for the month of June only, said Morgan. "...The agreement covers only Three Rivers Casino and the Hatch Tract, but no other tribal-owned property in Lane County or any other county, added [Florence Police Chief Maurice] Sanders. "...According to the agreement, 'the tribes agree to pay the city of Florence a total of $120,000 each calendar year in consideration for police services to be provided by the city of Florence, pursuant to this agreement.' "The amount would increase on a yearly basis, based on the city's actual police wage increases under the city's current collective bargaining agreement..." |
