Missouri panel considers slots at racetracks28 May 2008MISSOURI -- As reported by the Kansas City Star: "The Missouri Horse Racing Commission is set to meet next month for the first time in 10 years, with the thought of racetracks with slot machines in mind. "Two recent appointments brought the long inactive panel to full strength, and the commission's executive director, Gene McNary, said it is time to get back to work. "McNary, also executive director of the Missouri Gaming Commission, said he expects the panel to discuss a revival of state and county fair horse racing in Missouri, as well as the possibility of 'racinos,' or pari-mutuel racetracks with casino-style games, including slot machines. "...McNary has appeared eager at times in the past year to expand casino gambling in the state. He is pushing a proposed casino project in Sugar Creek, and has authorized state-financed research into the effects of new casinos in St. Louis, Jefferson City and Cape Girardeau..." |
