Speaking Rock offers cash instead of points14 March 2008TEXAS -- As reported by the El Paso Times: "The former Speaking Rock casino, which has been offering video games with prizes since it was shut down for gambling by the state in 2001, is now paying out winners in cash. "The Speaking Rock Entertainment Center, on the Tigua Indian reservation in the Lower Valley, publicized the new cash payouts on a highway billboard this week. "'There were a lot of requests (from customers) for cash, and for us it was easier to manage,' said Speaking Rock General Manager Karl Maahs. "...Participants buy a prepaid Internet card at Speaking Rock -- a card that can be used for dial-up Internet access. "Sweepstakes points are added to the card each time the cardholder buys prepaid units or buys goods and services from a Tigua business, such as the Running Bear convenience stores. "...Those points are not redeemable for money; they are used only to play. "At Speaking Rock on Thursday afternoon, dozens of customers sat at computer terminals, swiped their prepaid Internet cards and accessed a selection of video games that resemble the old slot machines. One winning point pays one penny. The maximum for a single play is $1,200. Winnings are redeemed at the cashier through a debit card or as cash..." |
