Calgary casinos see no effect from smoking ban2 January 2008CALGARY, Alberta -- As reported by the Calgary Sun: "While a new First Nations casino on the city's west edge broke ranks yesterday on a province-wide smoking ban, some other Calgary gambling haunts said they hadn't seen business drop. "Amid fears a blanket tobacco ban and the Tsuu T'ina Grey Eagle casino's exemption to it would deal them a losing hand, a few city gambling spots said it was business as usual yesterday. "...A spokesman for Cash Casino echoed Seib, saying business for New Year's Day was unchanged, but Glenda Johnston, manager of Players Choice Bingo said the ban could prove disastrous. "...The Grey Eagle has been granted a signed bylaw by Ottawa, exempting it from the ban because it's on land under federal jurisdiction, said casino manager Debbie Hancock." |
