South Dakota gaming board considers cashless system

DEADWOOD, South Dakota -- As reported by the Black Hills Pioneer: "Since the inception of gaming in 1989, Deadwood has transformed and advanced into one of the most popular tourist destinations in the Rocky Mountain Region. With one change comes several and now the South Dakota Gaming Commission is considering the possibility of going to a cashless gaming system.

"After hearing a proposal from a New Jersey Company at its quarterly meeting

"held in Deadwood Monday, the commission agreed to look into the system, gather more information and make a decision by September.

"James Maida, CEO of Gaming Laboratories International of New Jersey, introduced the gaming commission to cashless gaming, where a player can be issued a card to play, which will be unique to that person. Currently Deadwood gamblers utilize tickets that can be used in most slot machines on the casino premise or tokens. Cash and coins have already sort of taken a back seat next to the many improvements to slot machines..."
