Casinos Shelter Hurricane Evacuees

LOUISIANA – As reported by the Shreveport Times: "Casino hotels are rolling out the special treatment this week.

"Hurricane evacuees at Boomtown Casino, for example, are getting water, juice and donuts this morning as they nervously watch what's going on in their hometowns.

"…This weekend, carloads of southern Louisiana residents escaping Hurricane Katrina entered Shreveport-Bossier City looking for shelter. Many exited as they saw the flashing lights and towering hotels at the casinos.

"The properties were packed Sunday night. Boomtown's hotel had about 25 rooms for Tuesday and Wednesday open this morning, and officials were putting the word out.

"…Employees there had been busy helping evacuees, and not just those staying on the property. The company provided sandwiches for lunch and a spaghetti dinner to people staying at the LSUS shelter Sunday, and this morning took over a hot breakfast. Dessert was on its way…"
