Oklahoma Casino Plans Move Ahead21 July 2005OKLAHOMA – As reported by the Sequoyah County Time: "The design for a new Cherokee Nation casino in Sallisaw may change and construction has yet to begin, but officials say the tribe will move forward with its plans for the casino. "'They are still in the design phase,' Mike Miller, Cherokee Nation spokesperson, said Tuesday of the casino. "Miller said the tribe is moving forward with the casino plans despite rumors of a possible buyout of the Choctaw Blue Ribbon Downs racetrack in Sallisaw, which may soon start its own gaming. "David Stewart, Cherokee Nation Enterprises Inc. (CNE) chief executive officer, said last year that the casino, which will be located on the northwest corner of the intersection of Ruth Street and U.S. Highway 59, would be a 25,000-square-foot facility that would employ 120 people. "Stewart said the Sallisaw Cherokee Casino wouldn't be a metal building with trailers on the side, but would have a stucco-type exterior and a Native American interior theme. "Miller said Tuesday that the tribe may change those original plans…" |
