Minnesota Lobbyists Disclose Ad Costs6 July 2005MINNESOTA – As reported by the Minnesota Star Tribune: "Lobbyists for the owners of Mystic Lake Casino have disclosed spending $284,000 on an advertising campaign to thwart plans for a state-sponsored casino, correcting an earlier report that listed no advertising spending. "The advertising costs were part of nearly $348,000 in lobbying expenses during the first five months of this year, the lobbyists reported Friday. "The Shakopee Mdewakanton Dakota, owners of Mystic Lake Casino in Prior Lake, ran TV and radio commercials this year designed to defeat efforts by Gov. Tim Pawlenty to build a Twin Cities casino with another Indian band that would share profits with the state. "Documents filed in mid-June by Shakopee Mdewakanton lobbyists said the tribe had spent no money on media advertising between Jan. 1 and May 31. "…The omission was the subject of a complaint filed June 20 by Minnesotans for Responsible Gaming, an organization run by Joe Marble of Hopkins and David Hoch of Arden Hills that has focused attention on money spent by Indian bands and tribes on political issues and campaigns…" |
