Jackson Raceway Starts 57th Season

MICHIGAN – As reported by the Jackson Citizen Patriot: "History will note the 57th season at Jackson Harness Raceway opened Wednesday night when the 5-year-old mare Sadie Hawkins trotted to victory in just more than 2:05.

"The record books will not capture the noticeable change of atmosphere this season.

"Suddenly no one is talking about the imminent demise of horse racing in Jackson. There is hope that better days may again lie ahead.

"…After years of dwindling crowds and financial losses, optimism is based largely on the arrival of West Virginia-based MTR Gaming Group Inc.

"MTR, which had revenues of $310 million last year, is finalizing the purchase of a 90 percent share of Jackson Harness Raceway. Rakieten's family has owned the business since its inception and will continue to own 10 percent…"
