Golfer Wins $3 Million Slot Jackpot

MESQUITE, Nevada – (PRESS RELEASE) -- A golf vacation with friends produced a hole-in-one for a Sun City West, Arizona man but the winning shot came not on the course but in the casino. Donie Lyle Fitzpatrick, 68, won $3,063,965 on Wheel of Fortune® dollars at the Casablanca Resort in Mesquite, Nev. Monday evening after playing about $50 in the machine.

Fitzpatrick and his wife were among a group of 12 couples from the Phoenix-area retirement community enjoying a golf get-away at the Casablanca, which is known for its golfing and spa facilities.

While an avid golfer, Fitzpatrick, a retired construction executive, said nothing on the course has ever measured up to the thrill of winning the big MegaJackpot. "I couldn't believe I won. There was no noise, no lights," he said. "In fact, I still can't believe it. I was just trying to get the wheel to spin."

Fitzpatrick says the jackpot won't change his life that much since he and his wife of 48 years already had a great life and a great family.

This jackpot comes less than a month after a Las Vegas woman won a record $11.2 million on Nevada Wheel of Fortune® dollars at the Golden Nugget in Las Vegas. To be eligible to win the MegaJackpots(TM) top award a player must bet $2 a spin. The Nevada game resets at $1 million after a jackpot is won.
