Betting Strategy for Blackjack

Dear Frank,

I, as have many others, read much on blackjack strategies and I am a firm believer/follower of Basic Strategy. I am one of the countless millions that has no ability to count cards, so I stick with Basic Strategy. The one thing I never seem to find any writings on is betting strategies. Yes, push your bet when you are winning and reduce your bet when you are losing is fine - but that's like saying "buy low and sell high" to someone who wants to enter the stock market. Is there any strategy out there that complements Basic Strategy that I can learn in order to maximize winnings over time? Some percentage of one's bet being increased after a win or something like that?

Any thoughts or guidance would be much appreciated!

The blunt answer is "NO" to your question of betting strategies to help you maximize your basic strategy winnings because over time you aren't going to win - so I can't maximize what isn't there to begin with. However, if you bet the lowest possible amount when you play - table minimums of $5 perhaps - you can cut your losses to about one-half percent of however much you bet. So for every $100 you wager, you will lose about 50 cents. At $5 per hand, you won't be losing much at all. So, in a sense, that's a "maximize" for you.

Okay, I know you didn't want that answer because it gives you no hope and you might not like betting only $5 as you might be a $25 or $100 player.

Here goes my best possible advice:
