A Greene County (Springfield), Missouri grand jury handed down a criminal indictment on June 26 against Interactive Gaming and Communications Corp. and its "high managerial agent," IGC President Michael Simone. The jury’s charges are for "promoting gambling in the first degree" in Missouri.

Now, in a move to halt hundreds of millions of gambling dollars now leaving California for the casinos of Nevada, an Oxnard attorney and a Los Angeles businessman have filed papers with the State Attorney General's office asking for a constitutional initiative to legalize "Las Vegas style" casino gambling in one small California town.

In a copyrighted story in The Age, Melbourne Online, it was reported that Plus Lotto, the site operated by Interlotto on behalf of the Red Cross has been affected by legal questioning both in Europe and Australia. Austria has banned internet gaming from operators outside its borders and Finland prohibits the use of credit cards for internet betting.

According to Kyodo, China, a country where public gambling is a crime, will allow Macao to run its casinos and gambling houses after the Portuguese territory goes back to Chinese rule in December 1999, a top Macao government official said.

The Charlotte Observer notes that the state legislature recently decided to thwart the popularity of video poker which was legalized in York and Lancaster counties, South Carolina. The General Assembly ratified a bill banning video poker in York, Lancaster, Chester and nine other counties that voted against gambling in a 1994 referendum.
